What does SB 1383 Mean for You?
Residents: You must now separate organic waste from regular trash. Use your green bin for yard waste, and you may also bag food waste and soiled paper products and place them in the green bin.
Businesses: Businesses that generate large amounts of organic waste must have organics recycling programs in place. Restaurants, grocery stores, and food facilities must also donate unsold, edible food to food recovery organizations.
Food Recovery Requirements
Tier 1 and Tier 2 food generators are required to donate surplus food.
Tier 1 includes grocery stores, large food distributors
Tier 2 includes hotels, restaurants, schools, and other large venues.
Why is SB 1383 Important?
Reducing organic waste will help:
lower methane emissions from landfills
improve air quality
conserve resources by feeding those in need
